When the long summer of 2025 began, I was full of pessimistic premonitions. We already had a hole from October 2023 to April 2024, when there were a lot of losses at the front among snipers, and I was afraid that we would again find ourselves in a systemic crisis. Let me remind you that since April 2024, the situation in terms of losses has stabilized only thanks to enormous efforts to additionally provide sniper groups, to switch to .375 caliber rifles, to build systematic defense on the battlefield.
The problem of the summer of 2025 was similar, but bigger: if losses began to increase again in geometric progression, we simply would not be able to find any universal high-quality solutions that would improve the situation.
In the spring of 2025, I decided to make the main efforts to maximally strengthen the protection of snipers from drones, providing everyone with electronic warfare, rifles for shooting down drones and, most importantly, unique thermal imaging collimators for these rifles. This was a quantitative saturation of the units, which as a result began to give way to a new quality of protection.
Thus, without finding anything fundamentally new in the tactics of using sniper groups, but having made enormous efforts to protect snipers from drones, we reached a minimum level of losses.
Of course, there were various cases, because this is a war, and there were both killed and wounded. Half of them were due to the fault of the command, half were unfortunate fate.
Regarding the effectiveness of the activity, we are also satisfied with the summer of 2025.
The guys and girls shot a lot, and not only with .375 caliber cartridges. In the spring, it already seemed that the bulk of the hits in the summer would be precisely the 375 caliber. And indeed, this caliber more than justified itself, both in terms of the intensity of use and in the fact that everyone who worked with it this summer is alive! But still, great results were added from the 338th and even 308th calibers!
The number of unexpected contacts with well-camouflaged enemy manpower units at short distances also increased, and our short light ARs, as well as even shotguns, saved many lives of the guys and brought additional results. In 2025, the truth that a sniper works as a sniper and survives if he also constantly acts as a universal soldier became even more relevant.
At the beginning of 2025, it seemed to me that in the fall we would defend Sloviansk and Kramatorsk. And not only because of the systematic pressure of the enemy, but also because of the weakness of our infantry, the continuation of the policy of war by a multitude of different units. But gradually, a certain consolidation is taking place, which should have been completed long ago in 2024.
Gradually, various units are gaining strength, becoming the backbone of the defense. They are proud that in 2025, individual assault regiments played a huge role - and we actively supported the snipers of these regiments both in all previous years and in this hot summer! And the guys fought both as snipers and as assault troops, and we are satisfied with the results. This year, there were still unfortunate cases of sniper deaths precisely because there were many different small units in their area of operation, there was weak interaction, there were cases when they selfishly took care of their own soldiers, abandoning soldiers from other units. But these were already individual cases, not an avalanche of mistakes like at the end of 2023 and at the beginning of 2024. I continue to emphasize that the front line should have a minimum of people, but they should be representatives of strong organisms that have all the capabilities to cover, evacuate, and counterattack. Weak units should be merged into strong, effective military formations, and those where commanders give maximum results with minimal losses.
This should be done not only because of a purely mathematical reduction in losses as a result of consolidation. People on the front line have long been running out of strength, often psychological, not just physical. When a sniper group is a large team, where there is mutual assistance and support from volunteers, the guys can already fight. When this sniper group is from a large, healthy military organism that will always cover and help out, people fight no worse than in 2022. With excellent results, they are eager to go into combat. And the state should pay twice as much for combat missions, because this is simply a requirement of the realities of the battlefield of 2025!
What will we do next?
The leaves are starting to fall, the winter season will soon be here. Sniper work is becoming even more risky. We don’t have some kind of miracle recipe. But the summer of 2025 taught us: we must make every possible effort, providing the best groups with both means of striking the enemy and means of protecting the lives of snipers.Therefore, we will continue to work on the following tasks:
1. Providing the best sniper groups with new 375-caliber rifles, scopes, and cartridges;
2. Providing, upon request, 338-caliber rifles with scopes, silencers, and cartridges;
3. Self-defense means – IWI ARs, anti-drone rifles, thermal imaging super collimators.
4. We will provide rapid logistical assistance when there is an urgent need for scopes, silencers, monoblocks, repairs, and cartridges.
We will use the doubling from our friends for electronic warfare, vehicles, treatment of the wounded, and other important additional tasks.
