Transformation of sniping in Ukraine and our priorities

The sniper business in Ukraine continues to transform, and with it our assistance to snipers is transforming.

1. In 2022-2023, we spontaneously came to the concept of forming sniper groups according to the following standard.

The narrow core of snipers is 2, sometimes 4 snipers with 375 caliber rifles (some snipers also used 416, 408 caliber rifles and the best 50 BMG rifles - McMillan TAC 50, Bushmaster, etc., sometimes the Horizon's Lord was also used. These snipers performed many responsible tasks, being the spearhead of both offensive and defensive actions, hitting the enemy at a distance of up to 2700 meters.

The second, wider core of snipers is 8, sometimes more snipers with .338 caliber rifles, who themselves performed many tasks, but also supported the snipers from the narrow core during operations.

Support group - marksmen with 308 caliber rifles, snipers with Barrett 50 BMG rifles, machine gunners, scouts with automatic rifles and rifles for counter-drones, sappers, drivers.

The total number of fighters in those years varied from 18 to 40.

A wide variety of tactics were used on the battlefield, depending on the terrain and tasks.

We tried to create new groups, developed everything that was already supported by us, and this gave results.

2. Today, such classic sniper groups can only operate in the environment of Special Forces, where they have support from the leadership. This conclusion is practically indisputable, and over the past year we have been making our main efforts here.

Snipers among Special Forces are often quite well-equipped, if they are from central departments, such snipers still ask something for themselves - but we do not respond to such requests. Units from the regions, individual detachments - among them there are those that have problems with the complete provision of equipment, and we help - if we have personally known the guys and girls for many years.

The future of Ukrainian sniping is units among special forces who are properly commanded, who are covered at least a little, who are evacuated with the help of armor when wounded - all these are simply conditions for the possibility of being a real sniper.

3. The tactics of using snipers are changing, since not only actions in a group, but also single missions - all this is taking into account the conditions of the terrain. Groups as a form of organization remain, but more often 2-3 people act on the battlefield, and others support these actions.

Increasingly, in groups, the number of drone operators outweighs the number of people who shoot, and this situation is normal. A person going into the field should take a minimum of everything to a long-range rifle, because they will also need to carry a self-defense weapon, because the main thing is the ability to shoot down enemy drones and survive in an unexpected close-range combat.

4. Snipers should be even more autonomous than in previous years, also in that we simply forbid ourselves from hoping for the help of infantry. Recently, there was a case when snipers worked from a large Strongpoint both by profession and simply as a reinforcement of the infantry - when repelling the assaults, they used machine guns and automatic rifles. The neighboring battalion unexpectedly withdrew to the Strongpoint, the enemy's  temporarily alive manpower began to leak out from the flank. Our infantry could not do anything due to demoralization. Our boys and girls had to go and clear all the trenches from the enemy.

5. The general conclusion is that any fighter of a sniper group, from someone who shoots from .375 or .416 caliber rifles to a drone operator, must be ready to act as a universal soldier, as a Special Forces officer, who operates with an automatic rifle as skillfully as with his usual tools. This is simply a condition for the possibility of survival.

6. Ordinary snipers from brigades increasingly act as ordinary marksmen, but they, in order to survive, must also be universal soldiers. In general, those units where the infantry has been brought up to the level of Special Forces fight well, although there are still many cases where character compensates for unimproved skills or insufficient health, and "grandfathers" hold positions for months.

7. Snipers have hopes that they will be freer to act in the future, when some tools for shooting down drones with lasers are invented. But so far this is not the case, turn on rationality. Work only when the terrain conditions and protection from drones are such that you will survive if you do not make mistakes. About 80% of the front line is such that it is too dangerous for snipers to operate there. Sniper groups, as autonomous organisms, move to those 20% of the combat line where sniper work is possible, and on these 20% they will find where and what can be done.

8. Our logistics are today primarily aimed at supporting narrow-core snipers - who mainly shoot from .375 and .416 calibers - because they are the ones who work and survive most often.

One .375 caliber rifle costs as much as 5 .338 rifles, a .416 rifle costs as much as 7 .338th rifles. Ammunition is about twice as expensive.

Of course, in 2022-2023, we focused our main efforts on providing snipers with 338 caliber rifles and cartridges. .375, .416 caliber rifles and high-precision 50 BMG caliber rifles were an exception in our activities, a holiday in the middle of everyday life filled with .338 caliber supplies.

At the end of 2023 and the beginning of 2024, we came up with a law: a sniper with a .375 caliber rifle has 50 times more chances of survival than a sniper with a .338 rifle and a hundred times more than a sniper with a 308th caliber rifle.

Also, rifles of 375 and 416 calibers mean more enemy hits, it means clearing of the area at longer distances, it means greater demoralization of the enemy. But the main thing is a phenomenal difference in the chances of continuing to live and fight. In total, 54 of our ward snipers died with rifles of 308 and 338 calibers. There were only two deaths with rifles of 375 caliber.

So, we are directing our main efforts towards rifles of .375 and .416 calibers, we buy them in limited quantities, only for those snipers who can handle them. We also provide scopes and cartridges for them, also providing everything when we are confident in their effectiveness.

Yes, one 375 caliber rifle costs as much as 5 .338 rifles, a 416 rifle costs as much as 7 .338 rifles, but these are the rifles with which snipers survive and work every day and at greater distances.

The energy with which a bullet pierces the enemy is also much greater - and therefore the results are more guaranteed. The mathematics of war is such that from the fall of 2023 it is better to buy one .375 or .416 caliber rifle than 10 .338 rifles.

9. We are increasingly paying attention to the support and training of marksmen - because they are the second most used. Snipers who previously fired .338 caliber rifles all the time now shoot about half the time with .308 caliber semi-automatic rifles. The best have switched to the 375 caliber. Here we maintain the previously achieved level, but do not develop new projects, even if we really want to.
Maintaining the achieved level also requires cartridges, sometimes scopes or rifles of course.

10. Our main concern is to increase the level of protection of everyone who works in sniper groups!

Anti-drone rifles, super-collimators are our main constant investments in saving the lives of snipers and everyone who fights with snipers!

We cannot refuse this, as well as rifles of the 375 and 416 calibers and everything related to them - this is what is now fundamental for the entire sniper business in Ukraine!

Cadex CDX-40 Shadow cal. 375 CheyTac has proven to be a reliable weapon

We first ordered Cadex CDX-40 Shadow 375 CheyTac super rifles in December 2022 . Before that, we limited ourselves to 338LM rifles, perfected them, provided good cartridges, and were satisfied that our trained snipers hit the enemy at a distance of 1,800-2,000 meters. We also actively provided 50 BMG rifles, appreciating the opportunity to hit the enemy with armor-piercing cartridges. But throughout the fall of 2022, the best snipers asked us to buy 375-caliber rifles, and we began to buy Cadex CDX-40 Shadow cal rifles. .375 CheyTac. First, we bought back a few batches of rifles that the Ibis store brought in for us. Second, we bought some relatively new rifles second hand. Third, we brought some rifles from abroad. Fourth, in one of the batches of Cadex CDX-40 Shadow rifles cal. 375 CheyTac from the Ibis store added spare barrels - and we bought old Cadex rifles off hand and replaced the barrels with new ones. We were satisfied with the results. The rifles had different barrels, but i...

The solidarity of the people replaced the institutions, because the latter were extremely passive

⬇️ Long read with stories and adult assessments that may not please everyone , but I, for my part, as a person, as a professor, as a volunteer, do everything I can and more, just like our snipers. What the state did, read below. Our assistance to snipers began in the spring of 2022, as the Azov snipers , who were stopping the enemy’s advance on Zaporizhzhia, asked us for cartridges. Who should have given them cartridges? The state! But we did, and this played a decisive role in stopping the advance during intense fighting in the Huliaipole area. Then we called the fundraising “People’s Cartridge,” because the people replaced the state. The solidarity of the people replaced the institutions, because the latter were extremely passive . We also began to help Serhiy Poznyak with cartridges – and have been helping for three years now, because the state does not even think of investing in his special forces platoon. Everything is based on enthusiasm, and we are grateful that they were allowe...

What are we working on in January?

We are getting, buying and handing over 375 caliber rifles . We will try to buy and hand over another long-range sniper rifle Cadex CDX-40 Shadow in 375caliber. We will also definitely buy 3 barrels of 375 caliber, which are still reserved for us, to convert the Cadex rifles with a significant range of fire. We need $12,000 for the rifle, 3 barrels in total are $9,000. We will try to buy and transfer 2 or 3 Desert Tech HTI 29" FDE, .375 Chey Tac rifles . Such rifles are very convenient for night operations, they are easier to move and camouflage with. On the one hand, we are constantly asked not only for the Cadex CDX-40 Shadow or Victrix Throne V 38’’ super rifles, but also persuaded to buy Desert Tech HTI 29" FDE, .375 Chey Tac. We are working on buying such rifles in January. One is already in Kyiv, we just need to buy it, two more should be in a few days. Such rifles can be bought for $14,000. We constantly provide 375 and 338 caliber cartridge s, we satisfy the nee...
